Funky Hand is closing down

It's been a wonderful ride running Funky Hand and I'm sort of sad as I sit writing this blog post to tell you that I have decided to close the business down.

It's been on the cards for a while, my passion for designing began to dwindle in 2014.  I had a really good talk with myself on the day I cleaned bathrooms instead of finishing up designing a new backing paper collection. Why would I do my most hated chore rather than do what was supposed to be my 'passion'? Simple, I'd falled out of love. :(

Since then I have been talking myself into closing and then staying open and back again.  Finally, I have decided that it's time to say goodbye.

Over the years Funky Hand has been totally brilliant and totally terrible, sometimes at the same time!  I've met wonderful people and created virtual friendships that are better than some real ones I have. Everyone of my Design Team members have been the most talented, supportive, inspiring and precious women I shall ever have in my life. I thank them all for everything they created for me over the years and for the times they have had to listen to me moan and cry and helped pick me up off the floor, also pulling me off the ceiling and down to earth when things had gone better than I ever expected.

I've had the opportunity to do so many things that I wouldn't have been able to imagine doing like presenting live TV shows selling my own products. Moving into a cool little office and winning a small business award. These are just a few things that come to mind now, but there have been so many others.

But, all good things come to an end and now I am heading off to pastures new taking with me the experience I have gained from running Funky Hand.

To say thank you to all my customers I've put up one last sale with loads of discount off everything.  Pop over to the website to take a look it will be on until the 8th August when the virtual doors of Funky Hand will be shut for good.

So, that's it.  I don't have much else to say really.  I started a new job a couple of months ago and I'm loving the new challenges it's putting infront of me.  I'm very lucky to be able to change direction again at my age and I'm making sure I get as much out of my new job as I did from running my own business. Seems to offer a little less stress..but alot more deadlines, that's what  happens when someone else is setting them I suppose. :)

Thanks for everything,
Anice xx

Keepsake Box by Kathy

Hi, it's Kathy today, and this time I'd like to show you a Keepsake Box made using the "Sunrise" designs from this month's showcase CD
"Now That's Funky"

The inner box part of this measures 10cm square by 3cm deep, so it's a good size for storing all manner of jewellery, knick-knacks, or maybe those pads of paper to keep by the phone

Materials and Tools
"Sunrise"   from the Funky Hand CD "Now That's Funky"
the designs were all printed on textured white Bazzill card
Bazzill card in the deeper colour to make the wrap-around section of the box
Empty cereal packet for the structural pieces
 Ribbon
Dies: Square doily (Spellbinders)
Shapeabilities Sprigs (Spellbinders Die D'Lites)
"Build a Flower #2" (Cheery Lynn)

The thing about this box is that it's much easier to make than it looks, which is always good in my book!  You just need to make the inner box from card - or cover one you already have with pretty Funky Hand paper, then make the wrap-around cover to stick it in to!

This cover is made in the same way used for the memo blocks I've shown on here in the past, but with an extra flap at the front.  You can find instructions for the memo block on THIS page of my blog
The layout for the pieces of chipboard (grey) on the coloured card is like in the picture below.
Remember to use a bone folder in the gaps so that the cover will fold nicely.  Turn in the margin all the way around and then add the inner cover to conceal all the workings, use the bone folder again in the hinge sections, then adhere the lower piece of ribbon in place before adding the box section.
The upper ribbon is adhered to the centre of the top section of the wrap, and then the box is ready to decorate

Don't forget, this CD is on offer in the SHOP for just £1 at the moment so don't miss out! Here's a quick look at just some of the designs you'll get on the CD

We'd love to see what you make with Funky Hand goodies too.....

Pom Poms and Pillow Boxes

For something a little different - Pom Poms and Pillow Boxes!  I've made a pillow box with papers from Now That's Funky - Funky Diva papers and for the first time ever, I got the scores in the right place and the ends simply snapped shut!

And for added glam I made some pom poms - not made these since I was a kid and was great fun - the boys were in awe!

Special Teacher

A quick random selection of papers from Now That's Funky - Sweetie Pie collection.  I've printed some of the papers as A5 and also used some of the sentiment backers plus a sprinkling of co-ordinating card candy.

Nice and simple and rather practical!

Lollipop Flowers

Hi, it's Kathy today, and I've a couple of cards to share this time.
I've made these using the pretty "Lollipop" colour-way from this month's showcase CD
"Now That's Funky"

As you can see, I've used the same style for the background, but changed the LO for the flowers and the dies I've used to make them

card 1

Materials and Tools
"Lollipop"  from the Funky Hand CD "Now That's Funky"
the designs were printed onto Diamond White Bazzill card
which has a lovely, subtle sheen
hand cut banner, decal sentiment
Dies:
"Tea Rose medium" (Cheery Lynn)
Tiny circle punch
Notes:
I used my craft knife to cut an aperture in the card blank, then adhered the patterned paper behind it.
I cut a rectangle from the block design paper, then cut another rectangle from it to leave the narrow border piece

card 2

Materials and Tools
"Lollipop"  from the Funky Hand CD "Now That's Funky"
the designs were printed onto Diamond White Bazzill card
which has a lovely, subtle sheen
 decal sentiment
Dies:
"Hybrid Rose" (DieNamics)
Leaves cut with "Build a Flower no2" die set (Cheery Lynn)

Notes:
This time I didn't cut an aperture in the card itself.
I cut another border piece from the leftover block-design rectangle from card 1, then just cut a smaller rectangle from the leafy, flowery design to fit inside.

Don't forget, this CD is on offer in the SHOP for just £1 at the moment so don't miss out! Here's a quick look at just some of the designs you'll get on the CD

Marleen DT - Scrappage

Hi everyone..

2nd post of this month for

This month the DT is playing with the
You can find it and all the other goodies in the STORE.

For today Ive made a scrappage.
Once again Ive gone for the A4 format simply because I only have an A4 printer lol
For a long time I didnt scrapbook much, especially for my DT post, simply because I normally only scrap in 12x12 but since trying my hand at the A4, Im enjoying scrapping again.

Ive even opened my own scrapbooking group on Facebook, so if you are a scrapbooker or just fancy a nosy or maybe even want some inspiration to try your hand at, why not pop over, we'd love to have you. Join us HERE.

Here is what Ive made for today using the digital papers from the "Now thats Funky" CD.

This page is simply put together with a couple of sheets printed from the CD with a few added embelishments from my stash. I have to admit, Im more of a vintge girl, so I dont have much in my stash that is "Funky", but I think I managed a fresh and fun page.
My daughter has already claimed the page for her room as it features my SIL's dog who has sadly passed away not long ago. Both of my kids has know him since they were babies and they both loved loved to play with him and our own dog out on the lawn. Needless to say, this really is a special memory.
And that is all from me for today.
Many thanks for popping by and for any comments left behind.

A Special Shoe

Sometimes I have an idea. And then I let it swirl around. Sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for a few days. And sometimes for a few weeks. This was one of those ideas.

The brief was to make something special for a work colleague for his wife's 50th Birthday.  I'd been given a list of likes and because I knew her as well I decided to combine it with her bright and funky personality.

So enter Now That's Funky and the Lollipop paper collection.

Everything I've made is from my own templates with some inspiration from Pinterest here and there. Plus some half pearls and lots of half glass diamonds for bling plus a die cut sentiment.

I was given a verse to use which I printed onto a medium scallop Sizzix tag and then cut a larger size so that a message could be handwritten onto it.  This fitted beautifully into the shoe!  More luck than planning!

The shoe was actually quite easy to make once I'd got my head around what I needed to do and how it would glue together.  I reinforced the heel just in case and the sole of the shoe has the same papers as inside the box.

It created quite a bit of a stir in the office when I brought it in to hand over.  And the recipient loved it!

Lollipop - Now That's Funky

Hello All, Sammylou here

Today I am sharing a card I made for my niece's birthday, using the Lollipop colourway from the Now That's Funky cd rom.

I used the sentiment backers to create toppers by die-cutting her name. Then used a cute Sue Wilson die to create a bow. Layered it up and we're good to go!

I will see you all later in the month for another share.

Pocket Page Book, by Kathy

Hi, it's Kathy today, and this time I'd like to show you a mini pocket album I've been making with the "Cold Walk" designs from this month's showcase CD
"Now That's Funky"

I've not decided what to use this book for, so it's still empty and lacking a title at them moment.

I've used a Hinge Binding method for my mini album.  There are loads of variations on this, and masses of tutorials on the web, but this is the one I used to learn how to make one:
[ Hinge Binding video tutorial ]

There's loads of room for photos etc as each "page" is a pocket, so as well as decorating the pages, a photo or journalling can be added to each side of the tags that go into them too.

Materials and Tools
"Cold Walk"  from the Funky Hand CD "Now That's Funky"
the designs were all printed on textured white Bazzill card
Matching Bazzill card in blue to make the hinge section and the ends of the tags
EK Success border punch to decorate edges of pockets
On the Cover
Ribbon, hand-cut banners, hand made Rolled roses,
Tiny blue gems, Stickles Glitter Glu, Die cut roses, lavels and swirls

Dies: Nesties Labels 18 (Spellbinders)
Shapeabilities Sprigs (Spellbinders Die D'Lites)
"Tea Rose medium" (Cheery Lynn)

Here's a quick picture tutorial on how to make the pocket pages, I hope it makes sense - you should be able to click for a larger view

For the tags, I printed on both sides of my card.  I resized to 1/4 size versions of the designs so that when cut out the tags, both sides are pretty!
I didn't have a tag die the right size to make the end bits for my tags, so I found an image on the web, "cut" it down in my graphics program so that only the fancy end remained, then put it into my Silhouette Cameo to resize and cut to fit.  There is one of these end pieces on each side of the tag so that it's nicely reinforced and won't break despite going out and in their pocket

That's it, I hope you like this book and maybe you'll use your Funky Hand stash to make your own pocket book.  It's the right time of the year to be thinking of albums for photos of all your summer adventures and you're bound to find just the right papers to show them off with on a Funky Hand CD or download collection

Don't forget, this CD is on offer in the SHOP for just £1 at the moment so don't miss out! Here's a quick look at just some of the designs you'll get on the CD

We'd love to see what you make with Funky Hand goodies too.....

Simple But Effective

A nice and quick card from me today using Royal Flush paper collection from Now That's Funky which is the cd of the month at Funky Hand!

The kraft card blank works so well with this collection and I've made a little paper bow and added a half pearl to the centre.

New Job

Sammylou here with a share from Now that's Funky, a simple card made for my sister who has secured a new job.

Using the Funky Diva papers, alphas and toppers, I cut out the sentiment and layered them up to create a colourful and slightly retro card to congratulate.

Don't forget the cd is only £1.00 over at the website at the moment, so head on over to get one!

See you all later in the month for another share.

Marleen DT - Now thats Funky..

Morning everyone and welcome to my blog.

Its time for my first post of this month for

This month the DT is playing with the

Ive also had a play with the"Monster Rabbit" digital stamp.
You can find him and all the other goodies in the STORE.

I made a little gate fold card for today. I just used a prescored card I bought so all I had to do was cover the 2 "gates" with a sheet of printed paper from the CD.
My image is printed and coloured with Promarkers.
I finished with a bit of candy, a greeting and a few lines with a fine marker.
Its quick and simple and will do for any "boy" birthday, no matter what age.

And that is all from me for today.
Many thanks for popping by and for any comments left behind.
